The Holmes Family

Collin's Page

Collin turned nine this year and has grown up in so many ways.  He's become more mature about some things, but still a kid in so many ways.  He loves having more independence and told me the other week "Mom, I can take care of myself!"

Talk about knife to the heart!  What happen to that baby I had not too long ago?

He and Sean started at a new school this year and it has done wonders for Collin.  He's in a combined 3rd/4th grade with two teachers, and his main teacher is just wonderful.  She has let me know that not only has Collin adjusted well, but that the kids seek him out for attention and he has lots of friends in school.  Academically, he's done great too, needed a little time to adjust to the accelerated reading program, but once he got used to it, he did just fine.  His math skills are very impressive and his reading skills are right up there too.  And the boy who was too shy to read in class in first grade will now get up in front of a class of 50 kids with a microphone during sharing time.  (I got to see this in action when we brought Benny the Cat in for sharing time.  Benny did survive and the teacher told me we picked the perfect pet for our family.)

Collin's main interests these days are either Pokemon or Star Wars.  He hasn't seen the latest Star Wars - we're not sure he's ready for that just yet.  I thought he would be fine until a certain flaming scene (trying not to give it away for those who haven't seen it and might be reading this.)  He was very happy when for Sean's birthday, we not only got Sean, but Collin light up light sabers that make noise.

Collin still also loves legos - he's pushing for the Lego Star Wars thing that comes with a jedi knight with a light up sword.  He's really subtle about it - every time the commercial comes on, he asks if he can get it.  We went to a Lego bash the other weekend and Collin came home and rebuilt his Lego battlebot.  He would love to build a real battlebot at some point...he'd also like to go camping at the beach and go bowling too.  (His class went bowling a couple weeks ago and he loved it.)  So we have plans for the summer thanks to him.
