Miriam's page

I'm five!

That's right, Miriam turned five - and then started kindergarten the very next day. Mim is very excited to be starting kindergarten.  So far the only glitch was the day I came to pick her up and she thought she was going to ride the bus home.  I think she also adores her teacher already - they had a kindergarten open house and Miriam ran up to her teacher and gave her a big hug.  Miriam is also going to play soccer this year.  We managed to find shin guards that will work for her, but I'm not sure we're going to find cleats in her size (you know, size Smaller-than-Cinderella's-feet.)  Luckily, cleats aren't necessary in her age group.

Past update

Miriam has been very busy this year.  She just graduated from preschool the other week and is already set for kindergarten.  She keeps asking if that's the kindergarten every time we pass the grammar school.  Our school here has an "Early 5's" program for children with later birthdays or who aren't quite emotionally ready for kindergarten - emotionally, Mim's all set to go, but we're going to take advantage of this program.  At the end of the year, if the child seems ready, they can skip straight up to first grade.  If the child doesn't seem ready, then they move to the regular kindergarten.  A win/win situation to me.  Also, her best friend Lisa is going in the Early 5's program too, which they're both thrilled about (they'd cry if they didn't get to sit next to each other during snack time in preschool and share a love of the Disney Princess.)

And she is still a princess, our Miriam.  Her latest thing is making sure everything matches.  Heaven forbid it doesn't.  She'll only wear her church shoes on Sunday, and once complained that her underwear didn't match her outfit.  I blame my mother for this one (who said "What, doesn't everyone match their underwear to their outfits?")

Miriam does have a new true love in her life - his name is Benedict.  She calls him Benny Kitty.  It's our little grey, very patient kitten.  Have I mentioned how patient this cat is?  She loves him to death, but we were afraid she'd wear the fur off of him the first week.  Meanwhile, Benny has figured out great places to hid from Miriam, including the beams above the living room and way under our bed.  I did forbid Miriam to put hair bows on his head and refused to buy him clothing for her to dress him up in.
